Our trip to the zoo made me feel like I was in kindergarten again. Not because the content was immature, but rather, my mom came with us. As a kid, my mother attended every single field trip my class went on up until I entered the fourth grade. Nostalgia does not even begin to cover the cloak of my thoughts that day.
I have stated before that Propel has the perfect mixture of learning styles. With the independence of university, content of high school, and environment of kindergarten, this program is ideal for anyone searching for validation in the creative process. However, that is not all that we offer. Propel has offered me the chance to experience the world whilst I am learning. Usually in high school we aren't offered the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the zoo to learn about sustainability. Instead we are forced to sit in a classroom and stare at a whiteboard and somehow soak up the information being hurtled towards us.
Yesterday our tour guide Bran - who was amazing by the way- began to discuss how people tend to not care about the cause of various problems unless they see the effect in person. Once you see the cute fuzzy animal, you are willing to do just about anything to protect it, and I think Propel kind of emulates that. No, I am not suggesting that us propellers should be looking over our shoulder for Cruella Devil or anything, but I do believe that adults looking in at this program pay more attention to us.
Up until this program, we were all just considered a bunch of lazy teenagers. Now, we are finally being recognized as actual people with -at the very least- potentially valuable skills, and proper work ethic. We've been put under a magnifying glass so that we can prove ourselves. This program is providing us with the opportunity to show everyone what happens when you give teenagers the chance to be responsible and efficient.
Because once you see the effect, you must support the cause.
