Wednesdays in the ProPEL classroom are rather full of discussion. Every week we are given a topic based on events currently taking place in the world (such as the Syrian Refugee Crisis), and are then instructed to dissect the subject. after we watch videos and learn a little bit of background information on the topic at hand, we discuss points in our research that we found interesting, or questions that we have about the topic, as well as share our own opinions with each other.
The takeaway from these discussions often vary between each person, after all everyone has their own point of view. The difference in perspective is definitely the reason these discussions are so important to have, both in, and out of the classroom. By presenting us with a controversial topic with no right or wrong answer, we are forced to exercise our thought process when it comes to the way we see the world and react to issues.
We are all individually forced to acknowledge that there are always multiple perspectives to a story. This teaches us how to properly formulate strong arguments, and make our perspective sound inviting. you must be capable of doing this if you ever wish for anyone to agree with your opinions.
I have never been shy when it comes to a debate. I enjoy arguing, and designing my opinions, as well as analyzing various perspectives. So, I really enjoy the discussions we have in class. but above all, I love the exploration of uncertainty involved with opinionated arguments.
